It's been 14 years since the African legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti passed on, but I will never forget his legacy which is infused in the exceptional music he left behind and the activist attacks he launched against the Nigerian Military goverment! His songs are classics that are second to none and composed in line with Afro beat, the genre of music which he invented.

If you remember seeing him on TV you would have noticed Fela's talent and dexterity. The Kalakuta republic king played various musical instrument like the saxophone, key board, trumpet, electric guitar and drums.
He was from a family of achievers including his father, mother, brothers and his cousin Wole shoyinka the nobel laureate. Fela was an individual of controversy, marrying 27 wives and standing as a political maverick!
Sadly, his death came too early and was bad news for many Nigerians as more than a million people attended Fela's funeral at the old shrine.

However, we Fela fans smiled again when the award winning 'Fela on broadway' arrived Nigeria in April this year. The show was incomparable.

Fela on Broadway |
I had never had the opportunity of seeing Fela perform live but seeing him characterized so vividly on stage took my breath away. Amazing was the fact that even though the performers were foreigners, the audience could feel the African spirit and energy radiating from them. The dance, drama and music like ITT, Palava and many others was so intense it seemed like the legend had been brought back to life in the African shrine.
I remember Fela today the 2nd of August 2011, he is a legend and he lives on!
